In the folder list, click the contacts folder where you want the imported contact information to go, and then click Next. In the From box, drag the field that you want to convert onto the Outlook field that is listed in the To box. If the range that you import does not contain field names, the first row of data will be interpreted as field names and will not be imported as data. To make sure that all of the data in the named range is imported, use the first row for field names. To see additional records in the From box, click Previous or Next. Top of Page.
Before you export contacts from Outlook, it is helpful to understand the difference between the Outlook Address Book and Outlook Contacts. Both are part of Outlook. However, the Address Book is a compilation of the different address lists that you might store in Outlook, such as LDAP Internet directories, the global address list GAL , or other third-party address books. Contacts is only one of the address lists included in an Address Book.
Only contacts can be exported directly from Outlook to Google Gmail. In the folder list, click the contacts folder you want to export, and then click Next. Easy, right? It might seem that it's simply a matter of having the Apple Contacts app on all your devices, but in fact, you must enable the syncing via iCloud, too, for it to work.
If you don't enable syncing, the information in your Contacts apps will be different on each device. That first example uses one app. Here's an example with two apps. There's a syncing option between MailChimp and Eventbrite that you can enable to bring your Eventbrite attendee information into MailChimp so that you can create email campaigns for them easily.
You set it up by choosing the groups you want to sync, and from that point, until you disable it, all chosen data will be the same between the two apps. When you want to sync contacts, looking for an integration is the single best option usually. There are loads of them. For example, you can integrate Outlook and Salesforce to sync contact information between those two apps, and you can sync Gmail contacts with many CRMs.
There are plenty of contacts apps on the market that will pull in data from a variety of sources, collate it and merge it, and help you make sense of it. If you have contact information in multiple email accounts, LinkedIn, Twitter, and other locations that you want to quickly and easily merge, a contacts app will do exactly that.
These apps often sync the resulting data back wherever you want. As mentioned, be sure to keep privacy in mind when researching contacts apps. PCMag hasn't reviewed many of them, and a few that we have are no longer operating. Do read up on them at least a little bit before putting your trust in them. You don't always have the option to fully sync contacts between two systems.

In those cases, download or export your contacts from one app, upload them to the other, and then optionally, sync all future changes from one to the other. The precise how-to information for exporting your contacts from one app will vary depending on which app it is.
For email apps such as Gmail and Outlook, exporting your contacts is fairly straightforward. The most pressing question is usually what file format type you want to use, CSV or vCard.

So let's discuss the differences before plowing ahead. CSV stands for comma-separated values, and it's the most commonly accepted file format for address book data. It's the same comma-separated values you get when exporting a spreadsheet to a word processing file. Each line of data from the spreadsheet translates into a line of text, with the cell contents separated by commas. CSVs are human-readable, flexible, and light in the sense that the file size won't ever be enormous. So why not use it? Well, exporting to CSV can result in data loss, including your contacts' photo, nickname, website, and sometimes the "notes" field.
CSVs are bad at handling special characters, so if you have contact information in another script or know people with accent marks in their names, those will be gone or garbled. It's a more comprehensive exporting format for contact information, which means the resulting file will likely be bigger than a CSV. An exported vCard doesn't lose as much data and it supports more but not all special characters and foreign alphabets.
You'll still lose nicknames, websites, and AIM data when exporting to vCard, however. Once you figure out which format you want to use and verifying it will work with whatever apps and database you have in mind, you can download your contacts from one and upload them to another.

It's not a bad idea to spot-check a few of the resulting contacts to make sure it worked correctly. Now that you've copied the contacts from one app to another, do you want new changes you make in one of the apps to automatically appear in the other? If so, you'll need a third-party tool for the job. They're sometimes collectively called automation tools. Automation tools can connect apps that don't necessarily integrate on their own.
